Circle Avatar Widget – In the Spotlight

How often do you find yourself repeating the same task over and over again? Creating a circle profile picture in LiveCode is a pretty straightforward task but this beautifully simple widget makes it even easier.

Next up in the Spotlight is the Circle Avatar Widget from LiveCode. This new widget allows you to create profile avatars that match the features found in today’s account areas.

There are three main options with Circle Avatar, silhouette view, initial view and profile picture view.

First lets look at the options available in silhouette view. If the widget does not contain a label or a file path for an image then it will default to showing silhouette view. You can change the border colour and size, fill colour and silhouette colour giving you the opportunity to style your avatars to match your app or providing an experience that allows your users to be creative with their colour choices.

You can set a label on the widget which then changes the view to initial view. Anyone who has a Google account will be used to seeing initials as part of the google circle avatar. Just like with Google the Circle Avatar Widget will display a single initial if only one word is present and it will display two initials if two words are present. As with silhouette view you can customise the look of the avatar to meet your users need to be bright and shiny.

Finally you can provide a file path to the widget to allow for images to show inside the avatar. In this view the border size and colour can be customised.

The Circle Avatar also offers a disabled state which changes the look of the avatar.

And thats it…

We told you it was simple. The next time you want to create a profile / account area, don’t take any more steps than you have too. Just drag on the Circle Avatar Widget and be thankful for the simple things.

The Circle Avatar Widget is currently exclusively available in the Summer Mega Bundle.

Note – Since writing this blog post a member of our team wrote a library that allows the Circle Avatar to work alongside Gravatar. Gravatar is a popular avatar service where you set your avatar once and it will follow you around as you sign in to different services. This additional library and an example stack has been included in the bundle download.
