LiveCode 10, Things to be Thankful for

by Kevin Miller on November 22, 2023 2 comments

It’s November, Thanksgiving is here and Christmas is on its way. It’s a good time to look back on what has been in equal measure a fantastic and frustrating year, and to consider the way ahead.

This year we have invested more money than any other year in our history into LiveCode and its future. Every penny of your subscriptions, every cent earned from our Services work, and a sizeable chunk of other funding has gone into our platform developments this year. We’ve had a lot to do!

Reflecting on 2022, anticipating 2023

by Heather Laine on December 21, 2022 3 comments

The end of 2022 is approaching and we’re all looking forward to some well earned time off and holiday celebrations. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukah or the Winter Solstice it’s a time of year to get together for some quality time with our nearest and dearest.

It’s also a time to reflect, on the achievements of the year, and where they might take us next. We are only part way through our “year of reinvention”: the rebirth of LiveCode as LiveCode 10 announced in spring this year.

Progress Update on the Year of Reinvention

by Kevin Miller on October 7, 2022 5 comments

It’s six months since I announced the Year of Reinvention in my keynote at LiveCode Global 2022. That puts us about halfway through the year, which seems like a good time for an update. I can honestly say the LiveCode product team (well I should say teams plural as we now have a number of independent teams on each project)! has never been busier. Nor have we ever invested so much in the LiveCode platform in such a short space of time. Progress is going fantastically well on the project as a whole, though as ever some areas are running a little faster or slower than originally projected.

There is so much happening that I can’t cover it all in a single post. However here is a status update on the major projects.

M1 Native: Latest LiveCode Releases

by Heather Laine on May 31, 2022 No comments

Today we are pleased to announce the release of LiveCode 9.6.8 rc-1 and the latest 10 preview release, Developer Preview 4, both of which now include the ability to run natively on the latest Apple architecture.

LiveCode 9.6.8 is a maintenance release, and as such focusses primarily on bug fixing and regressions. We have made an exception for the new Apple architecture support, to ensure this gets into a stable release as soon as possible without having to wait for the end of the LiveCode 10 release cycle. The LiveCode 10 dp4 release has a few more of the features you’ve been waiting to get your hands on.

LiveCode 10 DP-2 – Charts, Guidelines, Web Browser Widget and more

by Heather Laine on February 18, 2022 4 comments

For a Developer Preview release, this one is pretty exciting. Not only have we been building on and improving the new Web deployment, we’ve also slipped in a brand new Charts widget and some “snap to grid” guidelines you can use when laying out your apps. Plus, you can now run the browser widget in a browser. We haven’t yet tried running a browser within the web browser widget within the browser…

It’s Here. LiveCode 10 dp-1

by Panagiotis Merakos on November 18, 2021 No comments

We are pleased to announce the release of LiveCode 10.0.0 DP-1. Developer Preview Release

Warning: this is not a stable release. Please ensure that you back up your stacks before testing them.

Getting the Release

You can find the release in your LiveCode account area or get it via the automatic updater. To find the dp-1 test release in your LiveCode account, please scroll down to below the list of stable releases, to find your available test releases.

Release Contents

LiveCode 10.0.0 DP-1 comes with several bug fixes and some amazing new features:

Web deployment now uses WebAssembly

The WebAssembly engine is smaller, and substantially faster than the previous asm.js version. Our benchmarking has this showing as typically around 4X faster. In addition, moving to this new architecture means that the wait command now works – along with any engine functionality which internally uses wait-like functionality. Lots of LiveCode-built applications use this internally so this feature means they will all run fine in a browser.
