We can’t wait for some of these sessions. Our schedule for the online conference on April 25-27th is really filling up now, and there is something for everyone. Whether you remember HyperCard and would love to revive some old stacks from the 80’s, or you’re looking to the future and cryptocurrency floats your boat, our latest speakers have something for you. Let me introduce them.

Bill Hankins – LiveCode Lite Mobile IDE and More

Bill Hankins, a man of many talents.

Bill is a 38 year old Solar Electrician, from Redwood Valley California. His creative passions include Software Engineering with LiveCode, Photo/Videography, Music Production, Amateur Radio, Graphic Design and finding creative ways to combine them.

In this session Bill will give a detailed overview of the creation and use of the Livecode Mobile IDE extension. He will go over the Mobile UI, how it works, what it can & can’t do, etc… He will also talk a bit about his first LiveCode project, a Client/Server Amateur Radio software project. Finally, he will touch on his latest project, creating a Crypto Currency Trading and Research bot with built in prediction and trading algorithms.

The Main Rest API that it connects to requires:

  • hmac sha256 double encrypted httpHeaders
  • base64encoding
  • parallel timestamping
  • and more …

just to make a query request. The Prediction part of the bot uses thousands of historical data points, running millions of comparative math calculations to come up with a reasonable forecast for any specific coin, all in a non blocking fashion within a few seconds. This project pushed Bill to learn a lot of more complicated procedures that he is excited to share with you!

Jacqueline Landman Gay – Converting from HyperCard

Jacqueline Landman Gay – loves coding and parrots

Jacqueline Landman Gay has been a landmark in the LiveCode community since its inception. She has deep knowledge of using the program and runs the successful HyperActive Software consulting business. She was leader of the HyperCard Forum on America Online for many years, moderates the HyperCard Mailing List, and has been both a speaker and instructor at a number of annual LiveCode developer conferences. She also has a great love of parrots.

If you’ve been around the xtalk communities for a while, chances are you started out with HyperCard. What you may not know is that you can actually open a HyperCard stack in LiveCode, and bring it into the modern world of multiple platforms, new Mac OS’s, colour, multimedia and internet connectivity. There are various pitfalls and gotchas to this process however, which Jacqueline is an expert at navigating. She’ll show you how it’s done in this session. Start rummaging on your harddrive for those old stacks…

Tom Glod – AppStarterStack

Tom Glod – there is no box

Tom is the founder of MakeShyft RDA.  He has been working with LiveCode since 2013, and is using LiveCode to create productivity and communication tools. His skills and talents include, software development, workflow optimization, website development and branding, graphics design and most especially, thinking outside the box.

The AppStarterStack is a Livecode stack that accelerates the development of rich multi-platform applications using the Livecode development tools and engine. It contains many functions and abstractions that every professional software needs. Tom will be presenting the story, features and lessons of the AppStarterStack for Livecode.

Andrew Bell – Generate PDF Reports

Andrew Bell – man of mystery?

Andrew is an Adjunct Professor at Ivy Tech Community College, a Web Application Programmer for Indiana University, and Production Manager for MidWest Coast Media. He has almost 30 years coding experience including BASIC, HyperCard, HTML, Director, C++, Flash, and now LiveCode.

In this session, Andrew is going to talk us through generating marketing PDF reports with LiveCode. He has a stack that queries a database, then uses that data to create a visual representation with a series of graphs. The graphs use a 3rd party JavaScript library that dynamically creates visuals in a browser widget. The entire stack rect is then exported as a PDF. During the session he will touch on:

  • call from app to database (using HostM LiveCode mySQL API)
  • analytical sorting of returned data into arrays
  • use of dateItems for mathematical conversions of various points of time
  • use of 3rd party Javascript library to create visual graphs of data
  • use of browser widget to display freshly created graphs
  • use of browser snapshot to create a static image
  • creation of PDF from stack

Mark Talluto – Appli

Mark Talluto – From LiveCode to No Code

Mark is the CEO of Canela Software, making vision testing and electronic medical records software. Mark’s more recent work includes developing a LiveCode native database and cloud hosting service called LiveCloud. His latest venture is the low code app development environment, Appli, built using LiveCode.

In this talk you will hear the latest news about Appli, the low code route to creating LiveCode based apps. Discover how the vision to create the next generation of data-driven apps is becoming a reality.

Alvaro Abril – Creating Algorithms for High Impact Games

Alvaro Abril – AI is the new Reality

Alvaro Abril is a senior full-stack developer with a broad and versatile coding skillset.

He has been a software developer for over 25 years (Using HyperCard and now, LiveCode). He worked in 4 countries as IT Manager for large corporations. He studied electronic engineering with a strong background in mathematics, which allows him to create complex algorithms. Passionate about the IoT (IIoT), Artificial Intelligence, probability analysis, Fibonacci sequence, Games Designing, Simulations, and Game Theory.

He has strong experience in marketing strategies for medium and big companies using technology (CRM, Gamification, Social Media, Mailing, and Free Press). He has more than 40 K followers on social networks and Speaker on international events.

Alvaro will be talking about how to create software that rivals the abilities of the human mind. Generating mathematical illusions allows the player to become loyal. He will reveal all his secrets.

Ali Lloyd – The Vulcan Build System

Ali Lloyd – the Puzzle Master

Ali started work at LiveCode after doing a PhD in Mathematical Logic. In his spare time he likes to do puzzles, preferably ones he can solve with LiveCode. He can also help with selecting a fine bottle of whisky for any occasion. He has recently risen to a modest level of fame on the TV Quiz show “Only Connect”.

LiveCode’s build system is a complicated web of programs and services, at the core of which is a command-line application called vulcanbot written entirely in LiveCode Builder. Ali will give a general overview of how the system delivers builds and helps prevent bugs, and delve a bit into how the vulcanbot program works.

Got an Idea?

The schedule is really hotting up, but we do have a few free slots still. Is there something you’d like to share with the LiveCode community? Maybe you have something you’re proud of that you could present as a 7 minute Flash Talk? Or you’d like to go into a bit more depth with a 30 or 50 minute presentation? Get in touch, don’t be shy. We love to hear how you out there actually use the programming language we know and love.

Not got your virtual ticket yet? Get it here.
