by Heather Laine on January 14, 2022 No commentsOur schedule for the online 3 day conference in April is really filling out! Today we have 6 new sessions to announce for you, with something for everyone.
Speaker: Mark Smith – App Developer
Mark has over 25 years experience developing applications for industry and academia, managing large government data warehouses, and designing grant and contract funded health research. He recently completed an app which was successfully submitted to the App Store and would like to thank everyone in the Livecode community that helped make that possible. He will be presenting two great sessions.
Topic: Syncing user data across multiple devices
Mark will demo this in real-time using two hand-held devices and provide an overview of a very simple approach. Then he will briefly walk through the program logic and answer any questions. We will cover OAuth2 as part of this presentation. The solutions uses a freely available Dropbox account as the data exchange platform.

by Heather Laine on December 21, 2021 No commentsJust in time for the Holiday Season! This release is stuffed to bursting with improvements that you, our customers, have asked for. We ran a survey recently to find out which issues mattered the most and we’ve done our very best to fix as many of them as possible in this release. So while it’s just a maintenance release, we think you’ll find it a treasure trove of goodness.
iOS goodies
In addition to fixing issues we now support iOS 15 and the corresponding Xcode 13 in this release. This will enhance your experience on Monterey and allow you to use the very latest iOS features in your apps. You can also now allow for the Notch and other device furniture using our new “safe areas” function.

by Kevin Miller on November 24, 2021 No commentsOur Vision for the Web in LiveCode 10
We’re really excited to bring Web up to a first class citizen in LiveCode 10. Our goal is that you’ll be able to use cards, stacks and the LiveCode language almost anywhere you might previously have needed JavaScript. We’ve learned from past incarnations of LiveCode on the web what we need to do so you can quickly create an amazing experience with your web apps.
Some of the changes here will have major benefits for LiveCode on all platforms. We’ll come back and talk about some of that in a moment. First though, I want to highlight a number of things you can do in our first developer preview of 10 on the Web, today.

Release Contents
LiveCode 10.0.0 DP-1 comes with several bug fixes and some amazing new features:
Web deployment now uses WebAssembly
The WebAssembly engine is smaller, and substantially faster than the previous asm.js version. Our benchmarking has this showing as typically around 4X faster. In addition, moving to this new architecture means that the wait command now works – along with any engine functionality which internally uses wait-like functionality. Lots of LiveCode-built applications use this internally so this feature means they will all run fine in a browser.

We believe there is no other environment available that measures up to what it can provide in an educational setting, especially for older children and young adults. To help students realise their full potential in this area, we have just signed up a new partner in education.

by Kevin Miller on November 5, 2021 11 commentsI’m delighted to be able to report back on more of what we have planned for LiveCode 10. Recent changes at LiveCode have meant that we have been able to scale up our LiveCode development team. New engineers will be moving to or joining that team from next week and give us the biggest team we’ve ever had working on LiveCode in our 20 year history. We’re all super excited about what this means for the LiveCode platform.Â
