Our schedule for the online 3 day conference in April is really filling out! Today we have 6 new sessions to announce for you, with something for everyone.

Speaker: Mark Smith – App Developer

Mark Smith
Mark Smith

Mark has over 25 years experience developing applications for industry and academia, managing large government data warehouses, and designing grant and contract funded health research. He recently completed an app which was successfully submitted to the App Store and would like to thank everyone in the Livecode community that helped make that possible. He will be presenting two great sessions.

Topic: Syncing user data across multiple devices

Mark will demo this in real-time using two hand-held devices and provide an overview of a very simple approach. Then he will briefly walk through the program logic and answer any questions. We will cover OAuth2 as part of this presentation. The solutions uses a freely available Dropbox account as the data exchange platform.

Topic: Submitting to the App Store

Mark will walk you through the process, explain what you need to prepare (and why), and what the work flow will look like. He’ll do as much as possible with a live demonstration and provide a handout and checklist for everyone. Intended audience is first time app builders who have never done this before and people looking for a refresher.

Speaker: Robin Miller – Server Admin LiveCode Ltd

Robin Miller

Robin has been Server Admin for LiveCode for many years. Recently he has branched out into doing more of the work on our backend systems, and this session arises from his work in creating a dashboard for us using LiveCode, from the Stripe API. In his spare time Robin plays the organ in his local church as well as playing piano and composing some original music.

Topic: Implementing a Dashboard from Stripe

Robin will be showing us how to use LiveCode with the Stripe API to create a customised Web based dashboard tracking sales. He will also demonstrate using the Charts widget to make the dashboard both useful and visually appealing.

Speaker: Keith Henderson – Managing Editor DC Books

Keith Henderson

Keith Henderson is a novelist, journalist, and Managing Editor of DC Books. He has served as past Treasurer and President of the Association of English Language Editors of Quebec. For many years he taught English Literature at Vanier College (Montreal) where he served as Co-ordinator of the English Department and Chairman of the Academic Council. For a number of years he was the leader of a small provincial political party called The Equality Party. During the separatist referendum period (1995-96), he appeared on CBS 60 minutes and was interviewed for pieces in the New York and Los Angeles Times.

Topic: 100% Small Press Management via LiveCode

This session will cover how DC Books manages all aspects of its operations using an in-house developed LiveCode program. Managed operations include: invoicing, inventory, accounting, royalties, taxes, even postal charges. For many years Keith has been using (and developing) a set of routines that runs a small press publishing house. These routines cover all areas of the business, from invoicing to inventory control to accounting as well as royalty calculation and title data, to name just a few of the areas liveCode currently controls. The program has been quite literally 35 years in operation and development. Keith will talk about the development and maintenance challenges of such a system.

Speaker: Ali Lloyd – Product Manager LiveCode Ltd.

Ali Lloyd

Ali started work at LiveCode after doing a PhD in Mathematical Logic. In his spare time he likes to do puzzles, preferably ones he can solve with LiveCode. He can also help with selecting a fine bottle of whisky for any occasion. He has recently risen to a modest level of fame on the TV Quiz show “Only Connect”.

Topic: LiveCode Wordl on the Web

Ali will show us in this session how he was able to take the popular word game Wordle and rapidly recreate it in LiveCode, running on the Web. We’ve scheduled this one for Day 3 in case you are all so hooked on playing LiveCode Wordl you can’t pay attention to the rest of the great sessions we’ve got lined up for you…

Speaker: Mark Waddingham – CTO LiveCode Ltd.

Mark Waddingham

Mark is the Director of Technology and the driving force behind every LiveCode release. He is intimately involved in planning and operations at LiveCode, with jobs ranging from coding the engine, to supporting the LiveCode development team.

Topic: LiveCode BASIC Edition Part 2

This session is a follow up to the “LiveCode BASIC Edition” LCG session held last year. In that session Mark defined a subset of the BASIC programming language (capable of running simple numerical algorithms) and introduced some core programming language implementation concepts. He produced an interpreter which can run programs written in it, all in LiveCode Script. This session is the promised part 2, and will cover extending the subset of BASIC implemented to add arrays, for/next loops and strings – making it sufficient to run a Maze generator program. With speed always being important, he will also look at how we can make our language implementation faster!

This is just a handful of the great sessions and topics we’ll be bringing to our most interactive online conference ever. Find out more and join us in April!
