In case you missed it, our next LiveCode conference is happening live, on the ground, in New York City next April. Learn more about it and get tickets here.
We’re just starting to put together an action packed schedule, here are some of the sessions and speakers we have already confirmed:
Mark Waddingham: Where Next for LiveCode Technology?
Mark will tell us a little about his work with the LiveCode engine over the past few months and where he envisions it going next. As always, prepare to be dazzled by the extraordinary things that go on behind the scenes and in the mind of our CTO.
About Mark Waddingham: Mark is the Director of Technology and the driving force behind every LiveCode release. He is intimately involved in planning and operations at LiveCode, with jobs ranging from coding the engine, planning future directions and working on backend infrastructure to supporting the LiveCode development team.
Philip Harrison: A LiveCode Chess Engine (50 minute session)
Put together Phil’s strong love of AI coding and the long winter evenings and what do you get? A LiveCode chess engine of course. Philip will be sharing with us his adventures in creating this in LiveCode over the next few months, with tips and pointers on what worked, what didn’t and the best ways to set about a task such as this. If you love chess, AI or coding, this session should be well worth attending!
About Philip Harrison: Phil has been working with LiveCode and AI for some time. He has spent a lot of time researching, testing and implementing different methodologies of finding abstract connections between data. In his spare time he likes to go hiking in the Scottish highlands, or if the weather is bad he is a keen poker and chess player. So you can assume he is really good at chess and poker.
Panos Merakos: Notarising Your Mac App (Workshop)
Panos will walk us through to success in his hands on workshop about this somewhat intricate subject. Get your Mac app signed and notarised so that your end users are not annoyed by warnings from Apple about potentially “dangerous” software. Even if you’ve already done this before, there are always new procedures introduced by Apple that make notarising your app ever fresh and interesting…
About Panos Merakos: Panos now lives and works for LiveCode from Greece, after having lived in Edinburgh for 7 years. He holds a BSc in Informatics and Telecommunications from the University of Athens and an MSc in Computer Science from the University of Edinburgh. He has become known as the Bug Tsar for LiveCode Ltd, and loves spending his days in bugzilla monitoring and improving the health of the LiveCode environment.
Christopher Flatt: Automate PDF Processing with LiveCode Server (50 minute session)
This topic will cover the basics of processing PDF form data submitted via HTML using Livecode Server. Christopher will cover building a basic form in Acrobat, the settings required for submitting to the server, and the HTML/LiveCode Script required to save the submission to a database and return a server-generated PDF response to the browser.
LiveCode Server Smackdown! (Workshop)
What if you could leverage the ease-of-use and familiar syntax you already know and love from Livecode and use it to power your dynamic websites? Well, you can! While Livecode Server may seem a bit intimidating, once you understand the basics you will be well on your way to wielding it as you see fit. In this hands-on workshop you’ll learn everything you need to get started, including:
- How to install and start using Livecode Server
- How to generate basic (and not-so-basic) dynamic content
- How to connect your site to a MySQL database
- Real answers to your questions as we go
Recommended for current Livecode users of any experience level. A prior knowledge of HTML/CSS is helpful, but not necessary.
About Christopher Flatt: With a solid foundation in digital prepress, he began teaching at the university level in the late 90s. Picking up Livecode (then Revolution) out of general interest, he has since come to rely on LiveCode for the majority of his programming needs, which these days focus on cloud based mobile solutions. “The power of the software, superlative customer support and dedicated user communities are a combination hard to find elsewhere.”
Monte Goulding: Building a Levure Helper Stack
If you’ve never used it, Levure is an application development framework for LiveCode. It helps you organize, develop, and package your application for distribution. It is suitable for intermediate to advanced developers who want to develop cross-platform LiveCode applications. The framework provides the underlying infrastructure you need to create professional-grade applications on Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android platforms. It allows you to focus on making your application unique and valuable instead of spending time working on features common to many applications. Using the framework saves you time and makes you more productive.
Monte will take you through a hands on workshop building a little static app data Levure helper. Really get to grips with using Levure and find out how it can help your workflow.
About Monte Goulding: Monte Goulding is a longstanding LiveCoder, creator of the MergEXT external addons for LiveCode, and now a hugely talented and hardworking member of the LiveCode Development team.
Ali Lloyd: st-git, what is it good for? (30 minute session)
St-git is a command line program that sits on top of git and makes it much easier to manage multiple distinct changes that might go into a single pull request, and rebase branches when they are out of date. Ali will talk us through why this is a good thing and how you can use it to improve your workflow.
About Ali Lloyd: Ali started work at LiveCode after doing a PhD in Mathematical Logic. In his spare time he likes to do puzzles, preferably ones he can solve with LiveCode. He can also help with selecting a fine bottle of whisky for any occasion.
