LiveCode Ltd. are proud to be sponsoring the team from Gillespies High School, in their efforts with F1 racing in schools. Their team name is Ventura Racing, and they’ve just passed stage 1 with flying colors – they won the Regional Finals in Scotland!
F1 in Schools
This competition is for teams of 3-6 high school students to design, manufacture and race a miniature model FI car, initially locally, then nationally and ultimately against teams from around the world. This is not the first year Gillespies have competed, last year they almost got as far as worlds!
Meet the Team
Here’s the Ventura Racing team from Gillespies High:
Jessica Taylor – Team Manager
Jessica makes sure the team is on track and meeting deadlines, she also guides the team and keeps it organised.
Patrick Snowden – Design Engineer
Patrick designs the car using software such as SimScale and Fusion360. He also races the car.
Anna Cruden – Manufacturing Engineer
Anna researches, selects materials, does FEA testing and then she assembles the finished car.
Pauline Schnaufer – PR Manager
Pauline communicates with sponsors and partners and markets the team. She also handles the social media accounts.
Louis Renwick – Resource Manager
Louis handles the team finances and tracks what resources the team requires.
Bella Nicolson – Graphic Designer
Bella takes care of all things graphics, such as the logo and uniforms. Bella also does the renders for the car.
Pauline told me:
We are delighted to inform you that we came first at the Regional Finals and are now the Scottish Regional Champions!! This means we will be progressing to the UK Nationals in March! In addition to coming first we also won the Fastest Car, Best Engineered Car, and Lightning Reaction Time awards.
We had a great time at Regionals. We loved talking to the judges about our work and chatting to other teams and visiting their pit displays. Watching our car race down the track and come first was a great experience. We cannot wait for Nationals and are so excited to meet and compete against teams from all over the UK, and hopefully get to worlds. I have attached a few photos of our day to this email.

The connection with Gillespies High
Our CEO, Kevin Miller, attended Gillespies high school some years ago, and is delighted to be able to sponsor aspiring students from the school today. Our Systems Admin Robin Miller also attended the school. He told me:
It’s a genuine thrill to be able to sponsor the next generation of movers and shakers from my old school!
