When did you start using LiveCode?
Jay started with LiveCode by writing apps for his kids. His first app was a clock, and his first challenge was getting the analogue clock hands to sweep around smoothly. He felt incredible when he solved this maths problem and saw it working in the app! Using LiveCode made it easy to load onto an Android device to share the result immediately with his wife and kids. LiveCode offers a sense of achievement very quickly, within hours or days.
The good thing about LiveCode is that you can see the changes in your app right away. even small changes, you can immediately see if it has worked or not. The iterative approach keeps you engaged, you don’t have to recompile.
After his success with the Clock app Jay felt confident enough to go on to create “real” apps.
What have you created with LiveCode?
Edgenotes.
This handy and lightweight addon slides in and out of the side of the screen on a Windows machine. Use it to collect notes, write notes, copy and paste notes, or as a scratchpad. Useful for storage, it takes up no space when not needed. Ready to pop up when moused over. Doesn’t disappear behind windows. Versatile. Can be permanently visible and float on top, or it can slide away. Always available when needed.
It was quite a challenge to create but surprisingly quick. Jay needed to resolve all the little aspects of coding, he enjoyed figuring these out.
He has been using it daily since it was created. Watch this space for the commercial launch of Edgenotes!

Brilliant, great job Jay. Any plans for a Mac desktop version?
