We started with one developer!

Trevor along with his brother Greg began helping medical device companies train doctors how to use medical device hardware and software. During this time, they realized there were no good tools for making software training guides. So they made their own. Now they have 8 employees and customers ranging from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies, all relying on Screensteps to provide for their training needs.

Understand your customers

What would I do differently: Don't just add one more feature and expect the world to come knocking on your door! Features for a developer are cool, but running a business is all about understanding your customers, what they need, where they hang out, how you can reach them. Make your customers successful if you want to be successful. And that's not about features. It's about understanding what your customers need and providing it.

Believe in You

The most important personality trait in a startup? Belief. You must have belief in your idea, your ability, in you. It takes tenacity to keep on pushing through that swamp when nothing is going right, and get to success on the other side. (It helps to have a good basement to sleep in.) Stay focused on your customers, your product, and creating that solution. It's not an ego trip. You can start out solving a problem just for yourself, but it has to become something that people will pay for. And you have to believe that other people have done this, become successful, and you can do it too.
