World Bank Project

Todd created a startup coding company in Armenia. The project was part of the World Bank's regeneration of Gyumri, a city badly hit by earthquakes and very impoverished. LiveCode proved to be the ideal tool for complete non-coders to go from nothing to creating commercial apps for sale.

Why Choose LiveCode?

When testing LiveCode against other possible languages, it very quickly became clear that it was the winner. We ran three classes using different languages. The other two classes were just finishing Hello World, while the LiveCode class had finished several apps. In LiveCode, you can focus on the logic, and the code itself reads very similarly to the comments explaining it. For new coders who have no preconceptions of how it "should" work, its just natural to learn. We also picked it because it was cross platform - desktop and mobile.

The Journey To Sony

When pitching to Sony, I was told we had a 1 in a million shot. Great! You're telling me I have a chance. Up against the big names, we offered them a working prototype, months before any other company could have delivered. If they didn't like it - they didn't have to pay. This wasn't about price - Sony don't care! It was about trust, and belief in ourselves. Working directly with the LiveCode team, we were able to solve problems fast and overcome security barriers, to finally deliver the app they wanted. Now we're adding features and doing 2-3 more apps for them.

Get Paid for Your Mistakes

My advice for getting started: start with a small app and do consulting work first. You will learn from your mistakes, but if you are writing your own app, you will run out of money while you're learning. Write apps for others and get paid while you correct those mistakes! Also, plan your entire UI and draft it before you write a line of code. Test a working data model. Then write the business logic. It will save you huge amounts of time to do it this way around.
