The people who make up the LiveCode community talk about what it’s like, where to find help, and their own experiences starting out in LiveCode

The LiveCode Community is the best mannered group on the internet. Zero trolls! Someone helped me a lot when I was first getting started, I want to pay it forward. Everyone is like that! They just want to help each other, and its pretty cool. I've helped so many people, and in a couple of weeks they're over the hump and coding. Search for almost any kind of problem you have and you'll probably find a code example. Just yesterday, there were 5-6 different answers to a problem, complete with stacks, pick your solution. It's brilliant.

The community has been great. I'm a lurker, but what's amazing is the people who regularly contribute in the forums. I first met the community in the San Diego conference. I had a family emergency. I couldn't reach my wife and there were a number of people who were at the conference immediately there, putting their arm around me... it became personal, very quickly. It's a good bunch of people. What do you do when you get stuck? Go to the forums and you get the answers! I haven't run into a problem yet that I haven't found the answer to either in the forums or the docs. There's a lot of answers sitting out there.

Some of the most helpful and friendly people you'd ever want to meet. No cliques, no "that's too simple to answer". You'll find the most experienced coders there answering the most basic questions. When I first started I had a list of 5 questions. I sent the message out as I was leaving on a 2.5 hour drive to my office. When I got there, I pulled my phone out, and someone had answered all my questions, point by point. I was about 2 months into LiveCode. I haven't found a community in all my years that has shared code like this one.

What stands out about the LiveCode community is that you have a lot of people who are willing to just jump in and help. That's priceless, knowing that if you have a problem there's somewhere you can go, at any time of day, you can post questions and you'll see all these people jump in and start offering advice. You'll see problems from a different perspective. It's a really diverse community and it all comes together in the forums and the mailing lists. It's great.

You get to ask questions that might sound naive, and no-one rips on you! It's a very welcoming community. The older folks are happy to help new users, answering the same questions that they've answered before, or pointing them at resources. I've found it really encouraging!
