August 17th @ 8pm BST
Greg is a well known and longstanding member of the LiveCode Community. Lately he has been working with CouchDB and is keen to share his experiences. This talk will be covering:
A. Intro to CouchDB (and how to install on Windows and Mac)
B. Differences between relational-databases (e.g. MySQL) and document-oriented DBs (specifically Couch)
-schemaless, self-contained, flexible, views instead of queries
-maybe a quick comparison with Mongo since some may be familiar…
C. Quick intro to views and Map/Reduce functions
D. Quick intro to the CouchDB library
E. Build a SimpleNote clone to show CouchDB as a backend/sync service
-creating users, creating user DB, syncing local and server data…
F. Showcase using CouchDB as a Database
Section “E” is the exciting portion where hopefully most of the time will go!
