The Story of Infinite LiveCode
Thursday August 17th 6PM BST
Following a successful Feature Exchange campaign, our team set to work to deliver ‘Infinite LiveCode’ – the goal being to add the ability to access any platform API from within LiveCode itself via the LiveCode Builder language.
Mark will be talking about what has already been have achieved, what there is still to do, and what it promises for the future of LiveCode.
LiveCode Connect: RESTful API’s the Idle Way
Thursday August 17th 6PM BST
Web-based APIs using the REST model have become the lingua-franca for interacting with cloud-based services and the web – indeed, all the most popular services we use today use this modal, including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Google and Amazon Web Services.
In this talk Mark will be introducing ‘LiveCode Connect’. A new tool which allows almost immediate access to any web API which has joined the army of services moving to an abstract description of themselves based on the emerging OpenAPI standard.
He will show how the tool takes the hard work out of interacting with popular web platforms; allowing them to be accessed via simple commands and functions in a safe, correct and reliable way. This new LiveCode feature will be made available to all attendees free.
BUILDING AN SVG WIDGET
Thursday October 19th 4PM BST
With SVG becoming increasingly popular as the universal format for graphics in apps, replacing PNGs due to their excellent scaling properties (necessary for retina and hi-dpi displays in general), it would be useful if LiveCode allowed an easy way to display SVG.
By producing a widget to solve this problem, Mark will guide you through his approach to building widgets using LiveCode Builder. You will follow the entire process from researching the widget right through to the in depth building of that widget.
As part of this topic, Mark will be:
Producing a widget capable of displaying vector graphics using a universal ‘vector metafile’ format – this will be written in LCB
Producing a converter which will support a suitable subset of SVG, written in LCS, which will transform an SVG document into a vector metafile, usable with the widget.
