Server Log Analyser
Sept 20th @ 3pm BST
Andrew is an Adjunct Professor at Ivy Tech Community College, a Web Application Programmer for Indiana University, and Production Manager
for MidWest Coast Media. He has almost 30 years coding experience
including BASIC, HyperCard, HTML, Director, C++, Flash, and now
LiveCode.
Part of the daily responsibilities at IU includes monitoring and
maintain several Windows servers. This included combing through
several thousand log entries looking for potentially malicious
activity. On Mondays this could easily take until lunchtime in order
to catch up from the weekend.
So he created a tool in LiveCode that would parse out the data into
easily digestible buckets of information including geographical origin
and previous reports of abuse. This allows for quick differentiation
between a Googlebot and a potential hacker, providing the ability to
analyze data from >4000 unique site visitors over the first cup of
coffee in the morning.
This talk will discuss the use of text parsing, arrays, JSON, and Web
APIs as well as use of the Map, Spinner, SVG, and Tree View widgets in
LiveCode.
