This campaign was successful. 687 LiveCoders pledged $324,644 towards the Covid-19 LiveCode Impact Fund. Thank You.

What a strange year we are having! Who could have predicted this on January 1st, when we were all toasting a great year to come, with so many opportunities and so much progress on all fronts?

The effects on LiveCode Ltd

Like most other companies around the world, we are really starting to feel the impact of Covid-19. Whilst as a tech company we are somewhat insulated from the instant impact that other industries such as travel and hospitality have suffered, the effects are now trickling through.

A proportion of our customer’s businesses are damaged, delayed, put on hold, and that inevitably feeds through to our bottom line. Income from commercial license sales is down, our service work sector revenue is particularly badly affected, and we have to accept that this is going to be the case for the medium term at least.

On the bright side…

We are doing what we can. It’s not all bad, we are gaining a significant number of new customers from our “Stay home and code” offer which is great for the health and diversity of our community. If you’ve joined us through that offer – Welcome Aboard! We’re running a great “Lockdown Learning” online webinar series, which we are enjoying as much as you are. In the long term, our community is strong, vibrant, growing, and will bounce back. However, we are now at the point where we have to turn to you, our loyal customer base, and ask for help.

Progress into the future

We want to continue bringing you new releases full of features, maintaining and supporting the fabulous and extremely complex coding environment that LiveCode is. The last thing we want is to contract, lose team members, slow down in all areas and put projects on hold, but that is what we will be looking at very soon and without the success of this funding campaign.

Losing team members is particularly damaging as it takes quite a bit of time for new hires to bed in, learn the program, and become effective. We have a fantastic team. We do 6 impossible things before breakfast with fewer development staff than any other similar company I know of. With your help, we’ll continue doing that.

Here’s what you can do

I invite you to support this campaign in any way you can. We’ve put as much of the store into the rewards program as we can. You can extend your license for 5 years ahead and save a significant amount on what you would have spent anyway in that time. You could pick up some nice extras, join our Lockdown Learning series if you haven’t already, get a LiveCode Hosting service (did you know our hosting regularly gets a feedback score of 100%? Almost unheard of!)  or buy a brand new license if you haven’t got one already. If you’ve been affected by Covid and you can’t afford much – even a donation of $10 will help.

If there is something in our store that you want, and don’t see in the rewards here, please let us know!

Bridging the gap together

Together we can do this. We can bridge this gap and come through to the other side of Covid-19. Let’s not see all the gains we’ve made eroded by a miserable virus you can’t even see without a microscope… If you want to see LiveCode continue to be the future of beautifully coded easy to understand Xtalk languages please contribute whatever you can, now.

What do I get if this campaign is successful?

You get whatever product/reward you purchased, plus the knowledge you helped ensure LiveCode continues to thrive, benefiting all its users both present and in the future. If you think LiveCode is a great way to teach and learn coding, and a fabulously productive tool for business use and app building, please support this campaign!

Is this an all or nothing campaign?

No. Payment for products will be taken as purchases are made.

What happens if the campaign only partially funds?

Every bit of money we raise will help us to bridge the gap and give us longer to find other ways to fund LiveCode’s future. However, the target amount is what we need to ensure we can get through this very difficult period to a point where revenue will start to pick up again sufficiently. If we don’t make enough there is a real risk we will need to contract sharply either now or in a month or two with all the attendant damage that will do to LiveCode.

When will the product I purchased appear in my account?

All of the processing for this campaign is manual (ie done by real humans). It may take us up to 2 business days to put your reward into your account, we ask for your patience. We will try to do it more quickly. If you still don’t see your purchase after 2 working days, please email us to ask about it.

I just purchased and its not showing on the campaign page

It can take up to 5 minutes for your purchase to be posted to the campaign page. If it’s been longer than that and it’s still not showing, please let us know.

I don’t want to be named on the backers page

If you prefer to be anonymous, untick the box at checkout that says “add my name to the backers list”.

There’s something I’d like to purchase that isn’t on the rewards page

Please, let us know! If its at all possible we’ll make it available for you.

Jun 18th, 2020 – 3.45pm

24 hours in and so many messages of support. Thank you all very much! We’re doing well so far, obviously still a long way to go but 6% funded in 24 hours is very encouraging. 64 backers as I write this, it’s great to see all your names on the backers list!

Jun 19th, 2020 – 3.48pm

LiveCoders – what can we say! It’s only been 48hrs since we asked for your support and already we have reached 13% funded with 92 backers. We’ve a long way to go yet, but its a great start! With your continued support, we can carry on working through these challenges times and come out the other side stronger than ever. Every new pledge to the campaign is celebrated as it comes in. Your support is hugely appreciated by the entire team. There have been several woo hoo’s over the last 48 hrs on our team Slack channel.

Jun 24th, 2020 – 3.20pm

We keep saying this but we are truly blown away. We asked for your help and you are giving it. Today we have hit that 25% funded mark, keeping the funding campaign on a good track. Still 75% to go but a very encouraging start! Take a look at the campaign page and if you can support us during these tough times by taking advantage of one of the many pledge offers we will seriously appreciate it.

Jul 8th, 2020 – 10.30am

We are reaching the final stages of our Covid-19 LiveCode Impact Fund campaign. Today we have hit the 50% funded with 8 days still to go. We need your support to reach our 100% target. With your support, LiveCode will be in a strong position coming out of this crisis and be able to continue at full capacity. We need full capacity to continue bringing you the latest and greatest versions of LiveCode.

Jul 14th, 2020 – 3.46pm

70% Funded. Let’s do this!

Jul 15th, 2020 – 8.46pm

We’ve just hit 80% funded. Let’s get this to 100% and keep LiveCode going strong. If you haven’t pledged yet, we need your help. If you have, even a small increase in your pledge could make all the difference.

Jul 16th, 2020 – 3.32pm

We’ve just reached 90% funded. We are getting so close. Let’s keep pushing this all the way to 100%

Jul 16th, 2020 – 6.00pm

We did it. On behalf of all of us here at LiveCode, I’d like to say a heartfelt thank you for your support today. I’m delighted to be able to say that our campaign has been successfully funded to 100%. Every single team member on the LiveCode team joins me in expressing our heartfelt thanks for your support.

Thank you for supporting LiveCode

All the best with this, guys. We have a vested interest in keeping you going. Thanks for supporting me in my times of trouble. Only right for me to return the honour.

    Heather Laine - June 17, 2020 reply

    Thank you very much Sean!

  • Richmond - June 17, 2020 reply

    I love your sofa, Kevin.

Even if only for that, I’ve donated.

We’ve had our differences (and I hope we will continue to do so)

But, when push comes to shove, you and LiveCode are “it”.

    Kevin Miller - June 18, 2020 reply

Thanks very much Richmond for the support, much appreciated! I can assure you the funds will be going into LiveCode, the sofa has some more life in it yet 🙂

  • Richard P. - July 14, 2020 reply

I want to donate a specific dollar amount, but there doesn’t appear to be any way to do that.

    Steven Crighton - July 15, 2020 reply

Hi Richard. Thank you for considering donating to the campaign. If you send an email to support@livecode.com we will be able to accept a specific dollar amount donation.

  • Toshio 'dddo' Doi - July 16, 2020 reply

I was only able to make the minimum donation, but may achieve 100% 🙂 .

    Steven Crighton - July 16, 2020 reply

Thank you for making the donation. Every single donation counts!

  • Brian Duck - July 16, 2020 reply

The LockDown Learning, and the back-catalog of LiveCode past 10 Conferences were purchased prior to the campaign launch.
Today I’m adding the Video Academies in order to help make the goal.

    Steven Crighton - July 16, 2020 reply

Excellent. Thank you Brian. We really appreciate the support!

  • André - July 16, 2020 reply
