It’s November, Thanksgiving is here and Christmas is on its way. It’s a good time to look back on what has been in equal measure a fantastic and frustrating year, and to consider the way ahead.
This year we have invested more money than any other year in our history into LiveCode and its future. Every penny of your subscriptions, every cent earned from our Services work, and a sizeable chunk of other funding has gone into our platform developments this year. We’ve had a lot to do!
read moreIt’s six months since I announced the Year of Reinvention in my keynote at LiveCode Global 2022. That puts us about halfway through the year, which seems like a good time for an update. I can honestly say the LiveCode product team (well I should say teams plural as we now have a number of independent teams on each project)! has never been busier. Nor have we ever invested so much in the LiveCode platform in such a short space of time. Progress is going fantastically well on the project as a whole, though as ever some areas are running a little faster or slower than originally projected.

read moreWe’re really excited to bring Web up to a first class citizen in LiveCode 10. Our goal is that you’ll be able to use cards, stacks and the LiveCode language almost anywhere you might previously have needed JavaScript. We’ve learned from past incarnations of LiveCode on the web what we need to do so you can quickly create an amazing experience with your web apps.
Some of the changes here will have major benefits for LiveCode on all platforms. We’ll come back and talk about some of that in a moment. First though, I want to highlight a number of things you can do in our first developer preview of 10 on the Web, today.

Education is a vitally important part of what LiveCode offers. We believe there is no other environment available that measures up to what it can provide in an educational setting, especially for older children and young adults. To help students realise their full potential in this area, we have just signed up a new partner in education.
I’m incredibly excited today to be able to introduce Tekkie Uni, our brand new LiveCode Official Partner for Education Ages 10-17. Tekkie Uni are a well established educational content provider with an impressive pedigree, running a phenomenal series of online courses to teach App Development for Kids. This entire course is based on LiveCode and is available at three levels. Unlike many other online training courses, Tekkie Uni teach students in small classes with a live teacher in each and every class. Tekkie Uni also offer online teacher training courses and licensed curriculum materials for schools. We’re delighted to be able to offer both the online App Development courses and the teacher training and curriculum materials to you on behalf of Tekkie Uni.

I’m delighted to be able to report back on more of what we have planned for LiveCode 10. Recent changes at LiveCode have meant that we have been able to scale up our LiveCode development team. New engineers will be moving to or joining that team from next week and give us the biggest team we’ve ever had working on LiveCode in our 20 year history. We’re all super excited about what this means for the LiveCode platform.Â

Everyone loves the LiveCode Conference – we know for many of you it’s the highlight of your year, and it certainly is ours! That’s why we weighed up carefully holding an on the ground event this summer as usual. However the reality is that at the moment the pressure is on to deliver features and finish projects. After a couple of recent Yak shaves*, our engineers have been chained to their desks. And will be remaining there for some time! We had to decide against hosting an in-person conference this year.
But we know how important our conference is – for both our team and the wider community. We love hanging out with all of you and the sharing of ideas, success and best practice is so important for everyone. So we spent some time thinking how we could still have a fabulous event this year. The result: LiveCode Global.
